Studio Description:

FISH-TANK STUDIO is an urban think-tank exploring opportunities for better urban outcomes at Fishermans Bend.

It is conceived as a collaboration with the various state and local government bodies responsible for planning the future of Fishermans Bend. Its findings will be aimed at influencing the future redevelopment of Fishermans Bend.

FISH-TANK STUDIO explores what makes a city work and feel like a real city. How can we make a new piece of city work and feel like a real, well established, fully functioning, diverse and vibrant city? It explores what makes a community “whole”, what makes urban culture “diverse” and “vibrant”, what makes a city “urbane”. It explores how these values might be generated, reinforced and expressed in the built form of a city. [Please refer to Appendix I: PROPOSITIONS.]

In FISH-TANK STUDIO we will work at a scale where urban design meets architecture. We will apply a new paradigm of urban design thinking, and test what urban outcomes it can induce at the level of architectural design – through the projects we design in this studio.
